As the largest University in South Australia, UniSA is a key player in the state's economic and cultural development. UniSA is committed to providing equitable access to education for greater numbers of people and upholds the belief that tertiary education should be a viable option for everyone, not just a privileged few.
Thanks to the support of the Cowan Trust, which was established to support the role of education in building stronger communities, five types of grants are available.
Cowan Ability Grant - This grant valued at $2,000 will be awarded to a 2nd year student with disabilites and preference will be given to rural students. The grants will be available for part-time or full-time students, who are able to demonstrate financial disadvantage and commenced in their current program of study within 2 years of leaving high school.
Cowan International Placement Grant - These grants will be available for Social Work students enrolled at UniSA to undertake a 16 week placement in India or Africa. The grants valued at $2,500 will provide funds towards travel, living expenses and project costs and UniSA will provide an additional $1,800 towards airfares. The grants will be available to students who are able to demonstrate financial disadvantage and commenced in the Social Work program within 2 years of leaving high school.
Cowan International Placement Grant - for a Hawke Ambassador. This $2,500 grant based on the same criteria as the placement grants will assist a student in the Hawke Ambassador program.
Computer @ Home Scheme - The Cowan Trust will financially support this scheme which refurbishes secondhand computers and gives them to financially disadvantaged students for home use.
Young Endeavour scholarships - These scholarships will provide two UniSA students, in the fields of psychology, social work or recreation management, with an 11-day voyage aboard STS "Young Endeavour".
